Concerning BP

Figured I'd take a step aside from random things and talk alittle about BP. I saw on the news today that they finally recapped their damn leak, and now we only have to deal with the horrifying amount of oil that did leak out before they finally got off their collective asses and fabricated a better plug. I mean honestly, they pull it off, then have to wait days to put another back on? Why? Are they fabricating the parts by hand? It just makes no sense. You pre-fab the new cap...take the old one off...then..and this is the shocking part so bear with me..you put the NEW one on RIGHT THEN. Crazy, I know. Apparently the amount of oil that had already spilled out wasn't enough so they decided to let abit more out...spit on the gulf alittle more. No worries.

I for one am still not going to buy their gas until every drop is picked up out of the gulf.

It's three in the morning...where is your mind at?

Sometimes I like to post a random thing, just something different. Today I drove to the store to get some things and got caught in what I swear was a monsoon....for about 3 minutes. Clear as day about 2 miles up the road!

Weather in SC is weird, that much I will own up to. Its also muggy, and hot. But anyway.

When it gets late like this my mind tends to wander, like its trying to decompress in a million different directions with none of those directions involving sleep. I like sleep, I really do, I just dont feel like its that time yet you know?

Oh - recently got into the anime Hellsing. If you haven't seen this I shame you forever. Its the polar opposite of what Twilight vampires are. In twilight the vampires are man-boys with sparkles that woo innocent girls with a gentle kiss to the neck and platitudes to her ego.

I call BS.

In Hellsing the vampires are psychotic killers that can summon demons, change their shape at will, and carry freaking hand cannons with 13mm rounds.

I call AWESOME.

So if your looking for something that is cool, just happens to be vampire related, and more importantly ISN'T Twilight I HIGHLY recommend Hellsing. Its short, violent, and has a half decent plot if your paying attention. It comes in two flavors - Hellsing (short 13 episode anime that just seems to....end. I was kinda disappointed) and Ultimate Hellsing (only 8 or 9 episodes long but they are longer, pack more plot in per episode, and have better visuals.) The music in the regular Hellsing is better, but the visuals are better in Ultimate Hellsing. Both are readily available in Japanese OR English, with the added bonus of the English voice cast NOT sucking.

Give it a shot sometime and hit me up with what you thought!

Thoughts on Final Fantasy 13

Since this game came out I've read through a plethora of reviews, some touting this game as the latest masterpiece from Square, others dragging it through the mud in everyway you can imagine. Seeing as how I've finally played the game for myself I wanted to toss in my two cents worth over a series of points.

1. This game is NOT for everyone. If you enjoy exploration, a free sense of travel where you control your own unique experiance through the game world then go ahead and sit this one out. The game is linear to a fault (IMO) and, generally speaking, everyone will experiance the same game at the same pace, for the same amount of time.

2. You control one character, and die if that character is KOed. This was a huge turn off for me. What are my other characters even there for? Can they not handle scripting the AI to send a pick me up my way? Am I playing an action adventure game or an RPG? It just smacks of poor decision making on squares part.

3. The game is GORGEOUS. Seriously, the game is beautiful and square did their dead level best to wow us with just how detailed everything can be. On the flip side, it seems like they went to an awful lot of trouble to create a world only to have us experiance a fraction of it. Whats the point of that?

4. Why, OH WHY, are my summons TRANSFORMERS?! Speaking of summons why does every character get one when you can only control YOUR character? The other summons are wasted, as you have to swap out the leader of the party to access the other summons you've collected. You can't use all three in a battle, so why even have the option?

5. The character development is rather stilted, generating some rather two dimensional characters with a very predictable personality. Now granted, most RPGs have 2-D characters, but after feasting on the character development offered up in ME1 and 2, Knights of the old republic 1 and 2, and Dragon Age my standards for characters in RPGs has exploded to a new high. I want my characters to all have a story I can interact with so I can get to know that character better, I want to know what drives them, and even have the option of romance or (what I'd like to see) Develope an active hatred in certain characters. Maybe hating on a character could drive them away, becoming an optional boss battle down the road?

Overall I'm rather disappointed in FF13. Despite the visuals, and a rather slick battle system (I would like to see this refined for multi-character control, or give me an option to control only their big moves like summons) the game fell short on to many fronts for me to complete it.
